The young John Storm was wild to say the least. He got himself quite a reputation with the local law. Then one day he was sent to Africa, to visit some colonial cousins and talked into helping excavate an archaeological site in the Congo, from which he developing a near obsessive interest in archaeology, latter writing several scientific papers on man's ascendancy from the plains of Africa.

A keen diver, John also developed an affinity for marine life and the sea. When his eccentric uncle passed away he inherited a rather unusual boat, which he enters into a round the world race. During this race a humpback whale gets into trouble. John knows that he has to try to help the stricken animal and that is when this adventure begins......
