BLUEPLANET UNIVERSAL PRODUCTIONS (disolved)

Action Adventure Films, Computer Games, Graphic Novels, E Books and more.....

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Blueplanet Universal Productions is no longer the franchise owner. The rights to the John Storm franchise, for development and adaptations, have been acquired by Cleaner Ocean Foundation Ltd., in furtherance of their ocean and climate awareness campaigns.

The portfolio consisted of the following titles, four of which are under review :-

Action adventure stories (books) under development by Jameson Hunter. Kulo Luna is due for release in late 2013 or early 2014 subject to final edit Cyber Wars is in its first draft stage, Operation Neptune is mapped, and so on. Sectasaur is a low budget sci-fi movie along the lines of "Them" and "PhaseIV" which may proceed directly to screenplay.

DEVELOPMENT - Our objective is to raise the funding to produce a series of high concept feature films and computer games derived from these stories, based on a unique direct-to-the-public approach, or alternatively to share the IP rights with an established production/distribution company with a reputation for entertainment excellence. We are also encouraging the development of these stories generally as books, and graphic novels. Prospective film investors, corporate and personal, typically understand how film development companies operate to be able to gauge opportunity. An accountant is further comfort and recommended. *Anticipated returns are illustrative only, based on a number of assumptions.

POTENTIAL - A franchise spread like that proposed is considered to be an excellent investment, as explained below. But first, you should know that according to specialist accountants, motion picture investment is less risky than bio or high-tech. A motion picture development should be evaluated as with any other investment opportunity, by someone familiar with the territory. You wouldn't buy a piece of real estate without checking out the local market values - or you wouldn't know if you were looking at a good deal or not. Movies offer multiple additional revenue streams that other investments cannot match - which, in the case of a franchise, increases returns manifold.

Three general rules apply to most film investments:

1. Invest in development of the stories and scripts.

2. Place distribution rights before green lighting movie production.

3. Exploit the multiple streams of revenue from each film for each film.

SECTASAURUS -  New for 2016, Jameson Hunter is now developing the giant (bulldog) ant based special effects animatronic for this potential cult sc-fi story. Bluebird Marine Systems have been asked to look at re-making the mechanics that went missing many years ago. The object is to produce a few publicity articles and maybe give some aspiring film producers a chance to make a pilot, possibly with the help of crowd funding.

DEVELOPMENT TARGETS:

* To produce a motion picture release with a major Hollywood studio.

* To become a writer centric film development company.

* To finance films through investor loans partly guaranteed by foreign presales.

* To maximize film profits and build audience awareness by attracting name directors and actors.

* To split profits from all revenue streams 50/50 with investors for exit in 3 to 5 years.

OPPORTUNITY - The eight major Hollywood film studios (20th C. Fox, Universal, Disney, Paramount, Sony [Columbia], Warner Bros.[New Line Cinema], MGM/UA, and Dreamworks SKG) are looking to acquire/distribute motion pictures from independent companies to supplement their own projects. In-house films are very costly to produce, (eighty million to two hundred fifty million dollars), and market (twenty-five million to seventy five million dollars) and the big 8 cannot develop sufficient mid-budget movies to feed their “distribution requirement” (theaters, cable, and video/dvd). E.g., twenty percent of Universal studio’s releases are developed in-house while the remaining eighty percent are picked up from independent production companies.

Blueplanet Universal Productions aims to supply quality films to the major studios as co-ventures.

SAFETY IN NUMBERS - Investment wise, the safest development strategy is to create multiple pictures. A completion bond company insures investor loans. Production loans are to be fully collateralized by foreign distributor presale guarantees and licensing rights with a major cable company (HBO/Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz/Encore). Blueplanet Universal Productions will work with the eight major U.S. studios and the top seven foreign territory distributors (United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Japan) in developing these movies. This creates a business collaboration that assures each picture's maturing in the major global markets over several months preceding its production, and virtually guarantees each film the distribution that is essential for profitability.

GENRE - These are the common attributes of a film to other films sharing the same general theme. Typically, a John Storm film is high-tech adventure/action, intermingled with wildlife (nature) struggles, with the vessel promoting renewable energy use for sustainability.

John Storm is an intellectually resourceful action hero who sails on the wild side and fights for what is right. His delinquent past and love of technology works for him against adversaries. The Solar Navigator boat (a real design undergoing tests) is an artificially intelligent character in the series, much as the Star Ship Enterprise is a key component of the Star Trek films and Kitt is a character in the Knight Rider series. Each film features subtle romance and powerful antagonists with near world domination objectives, ala Bond/Saint/Croft/Jones, etc, some focusing on treasure (island like quests), which may take many forms.

PRODUCTION - The story lines have an international flavour. They are to be shot on location in London, England - Sydney, Australia, Cairo, Egypt - Brazil, Africa and in many more exotic settings. As you can see from the sample book covers, there is no shortage of action stories for the foreseeable future.

MARKETING - Instead of traditional 35mm celluloid, for our first release, we are looking at shooting and editing films in 3D in high quality digital (DV) format. Harnessing the traffic from this site may create promotional opportunities to sustain traditional theatre future releases.

BUDGET - The proposed budget for the first film is $78.8m (broken down as per the business plan below), very much dependent on the mix of involvement of producers, directors and actors in terms of buyout or profit share, above and below the line expenses, etc. We feel that it would be a false economy to skimp on production costs, if we are to deliver hi-definition 3D excellence, stunning locations, quality graphics and superb performances. You can see from the Business Plan for 'Kulo Luna' that we have given the production of this movie careful consideration, taken in the context of a franchise strategy, where each film development benefits from those before. For our first movie development we will be looking for a name director to add their own style and dynamism to the story.

Conventional theatre releases may be bypassed for the first film (save for selected premiere locations) moving directly to :-

  • Airlines

  • Hotel pay per view

  • Video rental

  • Video sale

  • Pay & free TV

  • Merchandising

  • Games

This is in line with the latest marketing strategies of Love Film and Netflix, etc. We will though listen to our investors.

We would like to hear from anyone interested in collaborating in this enterprise, be it financial or skills. Actors should check out the casting opportunities using the character listings on the story main pages:-

SCRIPTWRITING

A script is only as good the director that shoots the film and the budget that is allocated to production. Below are a few scripts that writers may like to study and learn the ropes, remembering all the while that without the vision and experience of the movie men, your script may be so much wood-pulp. With that in mind, use you prose to bring your pages to life.

Alien

Godzilla

Terminator

The Silence of the Lambs
