Local author, Alex Askaroff, recognises the good work undertaken by the charities we support.  For this reason he has generously agreed to donate a % from the sale of all his books received from this site.  Alex has lived and worked in Sussex all of his life.  His enthusiasm for and love of the Sussex countryside is told in a humorous and informative style. If you like James Herriot, you're likely to enjoy these books.

Working as a travelling sewing machine engineer, Alex Askaroff was mending a machine in Potmans Lane, Bexhill when the customer's husband, Ronald Saunders, engaged in conversation, mentioned that his father was the engineer who operated the old electricity works in Herstmonceux, for Charles de Roemer.

This modest wooden building C. 1900, has survived two world wars and is now a Museum, opening to the public for the first time in May of 2024. The Trust who own the generating buildings are hoping to become an accredited location before 2025. It being crucial to be recognised, or it is impossible to obtain grants for the necessary restoration works and general maintenance, and to be able to properly display exhibits, etc.
