RICHARD de RIVAZ

Educated at Haileybury College and Loughborough University of Technology, Richard has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management and a Diploma in Industrial Studies.

Richard has worked in Industry for a number of companies and was Technical Director of an expanding Dairy Company before concentrating in 1986 on computing (software) and computer control systems (hardware) through his company MDR Interfaces Ltd.  

Richard has also had a long running interest in electrically powered vehicles and has constructed two electrically powered vehicles on his own account.  He joined the Solarnavigator project in October 2000, soon after conducting several experiments to prove the efficiency of motors and propellers.  Richard is now developing auxiliary wind generators to supply electricity onboard for cooking, instruments, etc.

As a member of the Solarnavigator 'project team' Richard is responsible for the Electrical and Control aspects of the vessel, to include a man overboard recall feature which is computer based.  Since joining he has also studied collector efficiency and energy requirements related to proposed routing.
