It's a constant battle keeping the grounds in good condition, even when the visitors are only passing through at the moment.  If the grounds were left unattended, the flora would soon become overgrown.  In order to keep the access open for the ground works, surveying and the like, regular cutting back and other general maintenance tasks are essential.
