BUILDS YOUR OWN ROCKING HORSE
On seeing a selection of beautiful rocking horses at Toys R Us in Hove near Brighton, a horse enthusiast decided one day it would be great fun to build a large rocking horse of her own. She had to build her own because ready made ones were to expensive and too small. Unfortunately, she had no practical skills, but she did have a book about horses, from which to research her project. The problem is how could she make a large horse on a small budget? The answer was to make a mould and use glass reinforced plastic (GRP) or fiberglass.
With a bit of help from her a Trustee of Bushy Wood, this volunteer from Hailsham, a small market town, decided it would be easy to shape her horse from expanded polystyrene foam. This can be cut with a saw, shaped with a surform and sanded with ordinary production paper, 40 and 60 grits. You can see from the pictures below how this takes shape. First though, you need to find a good picture of a a horse and expand it up to the size you want for your rocker - thank goodness for that book. Next you will need a photocopier and lots of paper and cardboard. The project continues ...................
