Excited by your new computer purchase, I bet you couldn't wait to see how old Bill had improved his operating system. Well, don't, get excited that is.

Rarely have I seen such a backward move from Microsoft. The Vista operating system is slow, laden down with energy and time consuming imagery that is not good for business and only slight entertainment for those with nothing to do.

If this is another offering from Bill Gates to re-sell yet more software to unsuspecting computer users, simply to boost his coffers, or rather those of his shareholders, they should perhaps re-think their strategy.

The question is, is this simply greed, or is it stupidity?  Why would any person putting themselves and their company forward as caring about the planet, produce such a program.

For starters, it has less features than XP and is much more difficult to set up for business users, requiring multiple email identities.

Every time you switch user, your main user desktop is jumbled up, requiring yet more time sorting, hence more energy wasted. Then after waiting for ages to switch (because everything is in slow motion in Vista) you will find the Windows message service cannot effectively differentiate between accounts, as with the much loved Outlook Express.

There are a number of other conflict issues, which may mean re-purchasing many of your existing programs.

It's not so bad for newcomers to the scene, they won't know any different and probably won't have any existing programs to install.

Fortunately, Dell have suggested that I can upgrade to XP. I will be trying this shortly and will report as to how many foul ups I encounter - such as loss of information.
