This project was tackled by studying castle remains in England, such as the one at Pevensey.  Practicality took over when considering the shape and materials.  Not too mention the dwindling pocket money of the children involved.

Most people used materials lying around the home such as old cardboard boxed found in the garage.  This was marked out and cut using a very sharp Stanley knife. The turret inner walls were added with masking tape and glue.  Some plywood was cut to make the inner ramparts and support the turrets.  Windows were cut and bars added (cocktail sticks).  The portcullis was made from kebab skewers joined together with a hot glue gun.

To complete the castle look, many pupils covered their cardboard walls in polyfilla and embedded small pebbles into the mix.  Sand was used to dress the block ramparts.  The drawbridge of the example shown was made of lollipop sticks and the chain acquired from an old bath plug assembly.
